The Flame

A journey to Portugal's Azores was the catalyst for it all. The co-founder of Cook Outdoors visited there to get to know his wife's family. He experienced an outdoor kitchen for the first time. Its kitchen was charming for purposes far beyond cooking. It provided moments for breaking bread together and functioned as a warm gathering place.

That outdoor kitchen served as inspiration, which was sealed in a bottle and returned to the US. Regretfully, in the early 2010s, there weren't many easily accessible solutions in America. Someone had to reconsider the traditional building methodology. With the intention of regaining mastery over the outdoor kitchen, the trip commenced.

Traditionally, a multi-layered frame system—usually built of concrete blocks or metal—was used to construct outdoor kitchens. Being an expensive, time-consuming, and labor-intensive procedure Thomas Edison's work on single-pour concrete homes and panelized "tilt up" construction techniques served as inspiration for us to increase efficiency. Our goal was to build a higher performing solution by utilizing high performance concrete technology to increase the longevity and robustness of our islands in any kind of climate.

With this high-tech concrete... We developed structural panels that completely integrate the brick finish. What was the outcome? A monolithic (single-layer) panel that required no prior construction knowledge and made assembly simpler. It's that easy, you only need a power drill. It is more affordable than hiring a contractor, requires no finishing work, and is weatherproof. Thus, Cook Outdoors was founded in 2017.

Following a few years of utilizing appliance dealers and contractors, We came to the conclusion that there was a gulf between us and you. We were not connected enough to give you the experience and service you were due. Thus, we changed to a Direct-to-You business strategy.
